It started with a song, as it always does, but this one was tricky. The Watson Twins had an orphan — a song they loved but couldn’t find a home for, called “Two Timin’.” Sisters Chandra and Leigh wanted to get it on tape. They were working with Butch Walker on his album in Nashville when they got the idea to record it, which set The Watson Twins’ new album in motion. It’s called Holler, and it’s out this Friday, June 23.
Chandra and Leigh have been in-demand backing vocalists throughout their careers, playing with Jenny Lewis, Harry Connick Jr. and Vanessa Carlton. In this session, the duo chat about being considered a package deal and how they’ve embraced that notion, co-writing and singing in unison throughout Holler. It’s not easy as it seems, as they’ll explain, but the results are worth the effort.
