This one’s personal for singer-songwriter Gina Castanzo, AKA Gina Zo of Philly pop-rock group Velvet Rouge. In time for pride month, Zo comes out as bisexual in her song “Fakin’ It,” available now.

“I’ve debated coming here tonight / I’ve been out of sight for so long,” sings Zo in the song’s opening lines which carry a weighty double meaning. Echoey guitar patter and anchoring rhythm create a steady runway for Zo’s leaping vocals to pop off, like in the explosive chorus: “Oh, I’ve been fakin’ it for so long.” In a press statement about the song, Zo says “This anthem is for anyone who feels that they are faking it for those around them; it is a call to be yourself and be tru to who you have always known yourself to be.”

Velvet Rouge is a part of XPoNential Music Festival this year, and will be joining us at Wiggins Park on Sunday, September 24th. Before then, you can catch the band at Philadelphia’s Victory Brewing for a free show tonight and then again at Johnny Brenda’s for a headlining show on July 22nd. Tickets and details can be found at the WXPN Concerts and Events page.
