Juliana Hatfield has been singing her heroes’ songs a lot lately . The alt-rock star released the second single from her forthcoming ELO cover album, Juliana Hatfield Sings ELO. The crisp, modern take on “Can’t Get It Out Of My Head” is coupled with a poetic music video directed by David Doobinin, a frequent visual and artistic collaborator. Drawing inspiration from French photographer Gilbert Garcin’s dreamlike black and white images, the restless short film highlights Juliana’s honest nature and how she embodies awkwardness and grace within both her daily life and emotionally uncut music.

Hatfield explained the multimedia collaboration in a recent press release saying, “David is really good at capturing my discomfort in front of cameras, and in the world. Making it all into interesting, moving imagery works great in the context of this song about longing to escape reality into some otherworldly realm.”

When Juliana Hatfield isn’t spinning the bottle or writing era-defining indie rock, the 90’s singer is busy putting her own spin on 70’s classics. The past five years have alternated between cover projects of her favorite artists and her solo ventures, seeing Hatfield gracefully switch from renditions of Olivia Newton-John classics on 2018’s Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John to her 90’s tinged take on indie rock with 2019’s Weird and 2021’s Blood. Continuing this trend, Hatfield announced Juliana Hatfield Sings ELO this past May, dropping a bubbly version of “Don’t Bring Me Down” that faithfully recreated the iconic groove.

Juliana Hatfield Sings ELO comes out November 17 via American Laundromat Records and is available for pre-order on CD, cassette, LP, and a limited edition 7-inch featuring 2 non-album tracks (“I’m Alive” and “When I Was A Boy”).
