The Philly rooted rock outfit Cold Fronts put out two massively fun records in the 20-teens on Sire Records, and today surprise-released the first new music we’ve heard from them since the band’s 2018 outing Fantasy Du Jour.
These days Cold Fronts is primarily the project of lead singer and songwriter Craig Almquist, who relocated to New York City a few years back, and the music hasn’t lost an ounce of its frenetic energy on the new so far away EP. It mixes two new original songs (the pensive opener “song for a friend,” the blistering modern rock anthem “any damn time”) with covers of Carole King (the title track) and Turnstile (“blue by you”).
In an Instagram announcement, Almquist writes that all Bandcamp purchases will be going directly to “my friend and fellow rocker” Maxine Steen of Mannequin Pussy, who is raising money for her gender affirming surgery, “so if you can afford to, please be generous 🙏”
You can do that and listen to the project at the Bandcamp link below.
