Kennedy Mann’s debut single will surely make you think fondly of someone special, swaying to the beat all the while. As the lead singer of Philly indie rock act Highnoon, Mann has played with the likes of Leith Ross and waveform*, in addition to featuring in local festivals such as this past spring’s Julia’s War Fest and last year’s XPoNential Music Festival. Even still, their solo work has a life of its own, and it would behoove you to pay attention.

Pulling from wistful feelings of love, “Crooked” is a stellar representation of wholesome admiration. Kisses that taste like Listerine and images of crooked teeth may not scream “desire,” but for Mann, nothing matters throughout this tune but the subject’s essence. Accompanied by an acoustic guitar backing, soft drums, and additive spacial elements, this song is the perfect backdrop for innocent romance. Done nearly all on their own, Mann was able to capture such a specific, endearing scene which sticks with the listener as if perhaps they’d been struck by Cupid’s arrow.

Check out “Crooked” below and make sure to grab tickets for their October 5th show with Frankie Cosmos and Good Morning at First Unitarian Church; details and info at WXPN’s Concerts and Events page!
