It’s the beginning of a new era for Philadelphia’s energetic garage-rock band Sheer Mag, as they have announced their signing to the prominent indie label Third Man Records. Following the signing, the band shared their sticky new single “All Lined Up” on August 3rd, along with plans to physically re-release their entire back catalog through their new label.
Since 2014, Sheer Mag has inhabited the realm of underground punk, beginning in South Philadelphia. The group’s first three EPs were recorded at their home base The Nuthouse, releasing each year from 2014 to 2016. Their debut album Need to Feel Your Love came in 2017, followed by A Distant Call in 2019. With only a 2021 soundtrack single since then, “All Lined Up” signifies the anticipated return for the established act.
Lead vocalist Tina Halladay delivers a trademark cutting performance through a heavy slap delay, adding to the group’s vintage feel. Siblings Hart and Kyle Seely cover bass, drums, and lead guitar, while Matt Palmer adds guitar reinforcement. The new singe “All Lined Up” is playful and authentic, with guitar riffs that compliment the vocals, and a bouncy drum performance that meshes with Palmer’s disco-leaning rhythmic guitar part. The accompanying music video sees the band in their element, performing at a club filled with billiards and poker tables. The low-res cameras, blocky transitions, and layered fades drive home the band’s retro aesthetic, under the direction of Palmer.
