Michael Doherty and crew have returned with a second single for their upcoming album Wishes to Fulfill, titled “Candle.” The track was released on August 16th via Run For Cover Records, home to fellow Philly acts mewithoutYou and Sadurn.
Earlier this year, Another Michael announced that they would be dropping two albums within a year’s time; the first being Wishes to Fulfill, set to release Sept. 22nd. Their second LP Pick Me Up, Turn Me Upside Down will be released in early 2024 according to the band. Their new single “Candle” is the third of nine tracks from Wishes to be released, following “Angel” from July and the standalone single “Water Pressure” from April 2022.
“Candle” is one of the band’s more groovy tracks to date, leaning away from the familiar acoustic guitars and indie pop tropes. The arrangement is based around a low, warbly electric guitar line and a straight, kick-and-snare drum beat. Synth keys are also very present throughout the track, adding to the electronic, almost disco-ish atmosphere. Near the latter third of the track, the track fills out as the band breaks out more layers of sound for a satisfying outro.
Written by Doherty along with bandmates Nick Sebastiano, Alenni Davis, and Noah Dardaris, “Candle” also features local artist Jacob Crofoot of the band Bread Boy on electric guitar. The song was co-produced and engineered by Nick “Scoops” Dardaris, and recorded at Headroom Studios in Philadelphia, PA.
Another Michael’s second studio LP Wishes to Fulfill, the follow-up to their acclaimed 2020 debut New Music and Big Pop, will be released on Sept. 22nd. To pre-order the album, visit the band’s Bandcamp page. The new single “Candle” is now available on all streaming platforms.
