Ms. Lauryn Hill’s landmark debut solo album will be turning 25 years old this Friday, 25th. To celebrate this momentous occasion, the hip-hop trailblazer just announced a 17 stop world tour, which will be co-headlined by her formitive group The Fugees. The tour will stop at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Oct. 23rd.

With only one solo album and two Fugees albums to her name, Hill has undoubtedly made a name for herself as one of the most renowned “quality over quantity” artists of all time. Along with the Fugees 1996 album The Score, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill has become an iconic specimen of RnB-infused ‘90s hip-hop, fusing emotive tones and storytelling with memorable hooks and timeless verses. At the 41st Grammy Awards in 1999, the now-Diamond certified album brought home Album of the Year, becoming the first ever hip-hop album to do so. That night Hill won 5 of her 10 Grammy nominations, making her the first woman to receive that many nods or wins in a single year.

In the 25 years since the release of Miseducation, Ms. Hill has collaborated with many of the biggest and most respected artists of their times, including Nas, Teyana Taylor, John Legend, and Mary J. Blige. A few of Hill’s solo songs have also been sampled by the likes of Drake, Kanye West, and A$AP Rocky in recent years. As for the Fugees, the group has been very inactive musically following the release of The Score and a collection of bootlegs and remixes in 1996. However at Hill’s headlining set at the Roots Picnic this June, the trio reunited on stage for the first time since 2021 to perform together. Starting on Oct. 17th, the Fugees will be co-headlining the anniversary tour. The young reggae singer Koffee will accompany Hill on the two Australia dates of the tour.

Tickets to “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 25th Anniversary Tour” go onsale on Friday, Aug. 25th at 10 a.m., with presales throughout the week; more information can be found at WXPN’s Concerts and Events page. This Friday, the Philly band Black Canvas will pay tribute to Miseducation by performing the album in full at World Cafe Live. Read more about that concert here.
