Rejoice, rock and roll true believers: Philly four-piece Sheer Mag has new music on the way.
The band this morning announced that their third full length album — and first for revered imprint Third Man Records — is coming out on March 1st, 2024. It’s called Playing Favorites, and Sheer Mag released its title track as a single today, along with a music video directed, photographed, and edited by Craig Scheihing which takes a candid look at life on the road as a Mag.
Of the song, which mixes jangle-pop textures with the band’s signature riffage, frontperson and vocalist Tina Halladay says “Nobody seems to write straight up rock bangers anymore—more than anything else, we want this record to put huge, catchy songwriting front and center.”
Watch the video for “Playing Favorites” below; the album is available for pre-order now, and the band plays Union Transfer on December 1st with Baroness. Tickets and more information can be found at WXPN’s Concerts and Events page. Sheer Mag announced a spring tour today as well, beginning on March 29th (dates below), and we imagine that, once the UT show passes, word of a hometown album release party for Playing Favorites might surface.
