Philly native Eric Slick (who you’ve seen playing drums with Dr. Dog and Waxahatchee) is back with a new solo record, New Age Rage — his first since 2020. “Lose Our Minds,” the record’s first single is a fun, call-to-action for his fans, and angsty consumers in general. “Watching all these dumb-ass faces talking / Is there something you and I can do to stop it?” Slick sings in the opening of the song. Yes, he affirms: we can get out and lose our minds.
“This song is my way of saying, let’s shed our toxic behaviors and embrace our flaws. When you turn to dust, you become a star. Why shouldn’t we cut loose and get on the dance floor while we’re still here?” says Eric Slick in a press release. The “dance party for the apocalypse” portrayed in the music video is brimming with nostalgiacore, like heavily pixelated video, electronic chimes, and even the AOL Instant Messenger’s door slam. But the record itself focus more on the present and future. Themes of AI, mass media manipulation, “living in the present,” and perfectionism plague New Age Rage‘s ten songs.
Slick enlisted a crew of collaborators for this latest release, including his wife, Natalie Prass, Diane Coffee, Finom (fka OHMME), Liam Kazar, Butcher Brown, Deep Sea Diver, and more. “Relationships are the most important thing to nurture, so I invited my whole community to contribute to this album. We threw our whole lives into it, and I’m so excited to share it with you.”
