The legendary Mavis Staples has achieved enough to fuel several careers. She initially became famous as a member of her family gospel group, The Staple Singers, singing on timeless classics like “I’ll Take You There” and actively soundtracking the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. In the 70’s, she released a few solo albums and later signed to Prince’s Paisley Park Records. In recent years, she’s been remarkably productive and provided powerful vocals on collaborations with Hozier, Arcade Fire, Jeff Tweedy, and Run The Jewels.

Today, she has announced an 85th All Star Birthday Concert with a stunning selection of guests. On April 18th, Staples will perform at L.A.’s YouTube Theater. She will be joined by Black Pumas, Hozier,  Jeff Tweedy, Norah Jones, Chris Stapelton, Michael McDonald, and more. On Tuesday, presale tickets will become available with the password MAVIS85; the general on sale happens Friday, February 16th, at 10 a.m., and tickets can be found here. Prepare for the show by revisiting a 2020 WXPN interview with Staples and checking out her 2016 performance at the XPoNential Music Festival.
