Tim Showalter’s project Strand of Oaks released a new single, “Party at Monster Lake” on April 16th. The track is part of Strand of Oaks’ upcoming album Miracle Focus, dropping June 7th via Western Vinyl.
Last month’s single “More You” uses echoes and synthesizers to create a psychedelic feel. According to a recent statement, Strand of Oaks’ influences include Ram Dass, Alice Coltrane, and the Beastie Boys.
That multitude of genres makes “Party at Monster Lake” come alive like the memory of a summer evening. The accompanying music video, filmed in Nijmegen in the Netherlands, was meant to “embody having the best time of your life on video,” said Director Ruud Gielen. “There is only one way to go, do it while making memories with loved ones. ‘Party at Monster Lake’ feels like how we want to relive our memories. Golden sunsets, the best weather, no clock ticking and smiles for days.”
Miracle Focus will be Strand of Oaks’ eighth studio album and a departure from his earlier, more rock and guitar based works. As Showalter began a meditation practice, he wrote songs retaining Strand of Oaks’ sound yet celebrating the joy that comes with connection.
