Doylestown native Anthony Green (currently of an array of bands including Saosin, Cira Survive, L.S. Dunes, The Sound of Animals Fighting) announced an upcoming album Doom. Spun., a sequel to 2022’s Boom. Done. The first single of the album, “Megadeath,” dropped Monday.
Green, who played at World Cafe Live on March 12, said that “The album is a collection of experimentation and collaboration, like a collage of moments from my life since Boom. Done. was released. I began building the record using some of the songs that didn’t fit on Boom. Done.”
The single and accompanying video feel organic, with footage shot on tour and audio of Green discussing his music. “When it works, it’s like a miracle,” he says. “And when it’s a disaster, it’s like a real learning disaster, you know? You learn how to avoid it.” He engages with his audience before getting into “Megadeath”’s slow ballad.
“‘Megadeath’ is a song that I have been working on for the past few years,” he said in Brooklyn Vegan. “The first week of the tour, I was workshopping a solo arrangement that really seemed to be connecting with the audience.” When Green played a hometown-adjacent show in Philly at World Cafe Live, he was able to use the WXPN performance space to record the group vocal parts of the song, as you can see in the video. “We had members of the audience sing backup vocals on it. Being able to record this song while on tour and with people who were attending my shows was a truly unique experience. I am excited that the essence of these experiences is captured in the heart of this song.”
