Philly-based singer-songwriter Amos Lee announced his upcoming album, Transmissions, dropping Friday August 9th, through Hoagiemouth Records (his label) via Thirty Tigers. Lee’s first single “Hold on Tight,” was released Wednesday, with accompanying music video by Anthony Mulcahy and James Delahunty available on YouTube.

Transmissions and “Hold on Tight” marks Lee’s return to his own songwriting following a 2022 tribute to Chet Baker, My Ideal, and last year’s Honeysuckle Switches: The Songs of Lucinda Williams. The new single is a song about the importance of loved ones. With a swelling folk-funk chorus echoing “Worry No More,” “Hold On Tight” and its music video feel organic, simple yet impactful.

The album, produced by Lee himself, was recorded live in a week with his band in upstate New York. It explores “a lot of existential stuff,” says Lee in a press release. “If you really listen to what’s in between the lines, there’s a lot of grappling with your place in the world, grappling with loss. There’s a lot of grappling with the balance between bailing out the boat and rowing at the same time – the experience of writing music and playing songs while trying, as we all are right now, to make sense of a world that feels like it’s changing really quickly.”

Amos Lee will be touring the US this summer, starting off with a concert May 7 at Bowling Green’s SKyPAC and visiting Lancaster and Atlantic City in July. Details at WXPN’s Concert Calendar. Pre-order Transmissionshere, watch the video for “Hold on Tight,” or view tour dates below.
