Wake up, the members of our nation; Carly Cosgrove, the Philly-based emo band themed entirely around iCarly, is gearing up to release their new album, The Cleanest of Houses are Empty, on June 14th through Wax Bodega.

This week, they released the lead single “You Old Dog,” which, as far as I can tell, doesn’t have any relation to iCarly. In fact, hearing this single without the context of the rest of their discography (which includes more obvious nods to the show like “Buttersock”), you might not realize that you’re listening to an iCarly-themed band; the morose lyrics that deal with complacency, addiction, and depression certainly don’t indicate so, unless there was an after-school special that I missed as a kid.

The song itself is an angular emo barn-burner that I’ll be playing on repeat, but I do have a vested interest in ensuring Carly Cosgrove’s success – so long as there’s emo bands themed around references to 2000s kid culture, WXPN will need twenty-year-old journalists like myself around to decode it all.
