A sure sign of summer’s arrival is the first outdoor show at The Mann Center, and last Thursday, The Avett Brothers kicked off the season in the pastoral Fairmount Park West venue.
Despite the grey skies, the band delivered an energized set of their sunny roots rock, particularly circling around the release of their new self-titled album. The record dropped the very next day, and Seth and Scott Avett along with longtime bandmates Bob Crawford on bass, Joe Kwon on cello, Mike Marsh on drums, and Tania Elizabeth on fiddle, showcased eight of its nine songs. They also dug back into their catalog to play from beloved releases I And Love and You, True Sadness, and more.
The City And Colour, the ongoing post-emo roots rock project of songwriter Dallas Green, opened the show. Check out scenes from the night in the gallery below. The Avetts continue their tour this Tuesday, May 21st, in New Haven, CT with Sierra Ferrell joining the bill as an opener; check out their full dates here.
