“Check. Check. Hello. We’re here at Sonic Ranch again, Brad’s producing, it all feels really alive,” begins Waxahatchee (AKA Katie Crutchfield) in a heartfelt and confessional introduction to her new music video for “Tigers Blood.” She continues, sharing the thrills and lows of being in the studio, confiding in us about the fear and anxiety that come with wrapping up a project:

“The writing of the record is like the thrill ride for me, it’s like the scary part. As a songwriter, I think you always feel on the brink of your last good idea. I always get a little depressed in the studio, and anxious, there are these big highs of ‘this is so surreal, we’re making this thing that I’m so excited about and everything’s just falling completely into place.’ And then there’s these inexplicable lows of fear and anxiety and just sadness that the work that really gives me life and gives me my sense of purpose is done for now.”

There’s a sense of peace and melancholy to the video, as her opening monologue gives way to the opening chords of the song. The music video is filled with footage from the making of the album, offering an intimate glimpse into Waxahatchee’s creative process, see below. Waxahatchee will be coming to Philadelphia in September, playing two consecutive nights at The Fillmore on the 7th and 8th. For more details, check out XPN’s Concert Calendar.
