A favorite band of the Philly DIY underground, Cold Court has surfaced with their first official recorded music. The young group has mostly avoided the daylight, playing in basements around Drexel’s campus almost exclusively, except for some killer opening gigs like at Union Transfer for Black Midi and, just announced, Deerhoof at Underground Arts. But today, you can see the band clearly in the music video for single “Twin,” available only on YouTube.
The conceit is very Us by Jordan Peele: Cold Court meet their dopplegängers in “Twin,” and they all get twisted up in a fight. The fury and the frenzy of the video match the music, which finds its sweet spot whenever Cold Court goes off the rails. For a young band, this group already carries significant professional responsibility: under the watchful eye of the music industry, they must live up to expectations. And maybe that’s why “Twin” isn’t available to stream: the band’s team is still building hype. Either way, the vinyl edition of the single is available for preorder on Boiled Records, and we’re here for more from Cold Court.
