Waxahatchee fangirls who saw the indie star on her last tour: this love letter of a music video is for you. You might remember “Much Ado About Nothing” as the only song you couldn’t pinpoint from the setlist as belonging to Tigers Blood or her previous Saint Cloud. Now, the live exclusive goes out to the world as Waxahatchee’s first single since AOTY-contending Tigers Blood was released in March.

Emerging as her signature, the melancholy in “Much Ado About Nothing” is charmingly framed with swaying melodies and southern slang guitars. The song is a cryptic laundry list of songwriter Katie Crutchfield’s depressive symptoms (“I watch the sky fill up with shapes, I cannot explain / I tell you every passing thought, I was just looking for pain”) but the tone is forgiving, not wallowing.

The video, on the far other hand, is so light, so joyful. It’s sewn together with behind-the-scenes footage of Crutchfield on tour shot from the perspective of Anna St. Louis, her tourmate and friend. The intimate peek inside the tour of Crutchfield’s career is a much appreciated treat to her fans.

Watch the video for “Much Ado About Nothing” below. And a reminder to ticket-holders, Waxahatchee plays Ardmore Music Hall on October 22nd with @ as part of Philly Music Fest. This underplay is very much sold out; however, you can watch Crutchfield and band perform songs from Tigers Blood right here at XPN studios for World Cafe at the link below.
