Louisiana’s Cajun Country is one of the most unique areas of the United States. It’s officially called Acadiana, after the French-speaking Acadians who settled there after being exiled from Canada by the British in the 18th century.
Our new monthly series, our Acadiana Music Showcase, is produced by our friends at Lafayette, La., affiliate station KRVS, and it explores this vibrant cultural melting pot through music.
Today, in the fifth installment of our Acadiana Music Showcase, you’ll hear a performance from an outsider artist who moved back to Louisiana after spending several years in the Washington, D.C., DIY music scene.
Bruisey Peets is the musical alter ego of Ben Usie, who makes what has been deemed “queer swamp pop.” They’ve released a couple of albums on their own label, including their most recent, Scapegoat Potion. In today’s session, Bruisey Peets shares a few tracks from their unreleased, upcoming new EP, Cartwheel Clown, which is expected to come out sometime this spring.
This episode of World Cafe was edited by Miguel Perez and produced by KRVS Public Media at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. It is brought to you through a partnership with Lafayette Consolidated Government, Lafayette Travel, and The Acadian Superette.
