Counting Crows turned NON-COMM into a release-night party and you can now watch the full set
The roots rock favorites play a thrilling set to celebrate their latest: Butter Miracle, The Complete Sweets.
As the clock inched toward midnight back on May 9, Counting Crows were in Philadelphia on the eve of releasing their new record, Butter Miracle, The Complete Sweets. So the roots rock veterans chose WXPN’s NON-COMMvention as the launchpad.
The nine-song album expands 2021’s four-track Butter Miracle, Suite One into the band’s first full-length of original material since 2014, arriving via BMG with new cuts like “Spaceman in Tulsa” and “With Love, From A-Z.”
At the NON-COMM showcase on Thursday, May 8th, Counting Crows opened with the slow-burn drama of “Spaceman in Tulsa” and gave “With Love, From A-Z” its live debut, threading a reverent “Colorblind” through the middle. The timing felt intentional, a set built to usher in release day at the stroke of midnight.
From there it turned into a crowd-pleasing sweep through the catalog: “Rain King,” “Round Here,” and “A Long December,” capped by “Hanginaround” that had the room fully locked in. Fellow NON-COMM’s Day 3 headliners including Bartees Strange could be spotted in the crowd soaking it up alongside his band.
