Solo artists dominate this week’s batch of new albums, but there’s always room for collaboration.

After several years focused on production for boygenius and Chris Farren, Melina Duterte returns with a fresh batch of Jay Som tunes (featuring Hayley Williams and Jimmy Eat World’s Jim Adkins, to name a few) on Belong. Alabama soul-stirrers St. Paul & the Broken Bones bring Muscle Shoals grit to their self-titled sixth album, their first to be released on the band’s own imprint. A striking and intimate work from the accomplished guitarist, Madi Diaz presents quiet, inviting moments on Fatal Optimist. Still riding high from his time on the road opening for Oasis’s reunion shows, former Verve singer Richard Ashcroft celebrates infatuation with his seventh solo LP, Lovin’ You.

On Ace, Madison Cunningham’s follow-up to her Grammy-winning Revealer, the SoCal songwriter reflects on love and loss while occasionally trading her trademark guitar for delicate piano. Rhett Miller’s 10th solo release, A lifetime of riding by night, arrives after a vocal surgery nearly robbed the Old 97’s singer of his signature tenor; the resulting set is vulnerable yet resilient. The Life You Save, the third album from Wye Oak offshoot Flock of Dimes, finds Jenn Wasner unfurling airy melodies and plush sonic textures. On Paw, former Girlpool singer Avery Tucker levels up his previous band’s already eclectic sound into a self-assured full-length debut.
