PRESS PLAY: New Albums out October 17th

This week brings a larger-than-life bounty of new albums to dig into.

The follow-up to the Grammy-nominated The Slow Rush, Tame Impala returns to harder rhythms informed by Kevin Parker’s festival-ready DJ sets on Deadbeat. Boasting a darker edge than its predecessor, The Last Dinner Party expand their sonic palette on sophomore effort From the Pyre. Of Monsters and Men reconvene for All is Love and Pain in the Mouse Parade, the first new album from the Icelandic collective since 2019. Joined by k.d. lang, Rufus Wainwright and others, Pretenders leader Chrissie Hynde tackles an eclectic set of jukebox favorites on Duets Special. Minneapolis combo POLIÇA present club-ready anthems on Dreams Go, their latest collection of industrial-leaning pop.

Elusive UK trio bar italia show off their omnivorous stylistic approach on Some Like it Hot, their first full-length since their breakout year. Mexican singer Silvana Estrada powered through injury and tragedy to make Vendrán Suaves Lluvias, a deeply cathartic and personal album. Philly mainstay Ron Gallo distills his shaggy roots-rock into the cosmic, measured, and occasionally somber checkmate. Ramping up the tempo, Sudan Archives fuses electro, funk, and hip-hop on The BPM. The near-constant shifts in song structure make LOTTO a disorienting but engaging listen from Philly-based They are Gutting a Body of Water.
