PRESS PLAY: New Albums out November 14th

Collaboration is the theme of this week’s batch of new releases, particularly among unexpected participants.

Pushing the boundaries of their progressive folk-rock to its limits (and beyond), the Avett Brothers team up with Faith No More/Mr. Bungle vocalist Mike Patton for their self-titled debut as AVTT/PTTN. Now into their sixth decade of cheeky, peerless power pop, Cheap Trick go for an extra spin cycle on their 21^st LP, All Washed Up. Inspired by the neighborhood-rattling guerilla public address units of his youth, Nightmares on Wax’s  George Evelyn invites everyone to party on Echo45 Sound System. Brighton singer Celeste’s soulful voice has been a mainstay of electronic music and movie soundtracks; she makes her long-awaited return on Woman of Faces.

Drawing members from Darkside, The Walkmen, Meatbodies, and more, Hyloxolos set the controls for the cosmos on their mind-expanding debut. Chin Up Buttercup, the fifth album from Austra, gives singer Katie Stelmanis plenty of room to showcase her roof-raising voice while remaining rooted in club-ready anthems. Bay Area songwriter Tony Molina has built a decades-long career out of homespun jangle-pop; On This Day is his latest collection of DIY confections. Minneapolis artist Runo Plum’s debut, Patching, is a tender set of odes to life’s small, unforgettable moments.
