PRESS PLAY: New Albums out September 26th
Fall into this week’s pumpkin-spiced new releases…
If you think it’s too early to enjoy a handful of nutmeg while listening to this week’s new albums, well you might be right. At any rate, here’s how September’s release schedule wraps up:
Following the January publication of her memoir, Neko Case casts out more demons on Neon Grey Midnight Green, her first entirely self-produced album. Jeff Tweedy’s fifth solo LP, Twilight Override, is overflowing with ideas; its 30 songs are spread across three chapters representing the past, present, and future. New York combo Geese continue their ‘impossible to pin down’ streak, with Getting Killed offering equal parts sweetness and cacophony. Returning to her own music after production credits with St. Vincent and Horsegirl, Cate Le Bon develops rich sonic textures and elliptical lyrics on Michelangelo Dying.
Named for his steady group of versatile collaborators, Robert Plant’s Saving Grace features new takes on folk tradition and new standards by Low and Moby Grape. Mississippi blues guitar virtuoso Christone “Kingfish” Ingram explores lessons of fame and heartbreak on the electrifying Hard Road. Teaming up again with producer Lawrence Rothman, Nashville mainstay Amanda Shires is defiant and resilient on Nobody’s Girl. Having reclaimed her career and identity, Lady Wray fuses her gospel roots with psychedelic soul on Cover Girl.
Listen for spotlights on new records like these (and more) every week on the XPN Morning Show and Indie Rock Hit Parade.
