It’s always a party when Say She She takes the stage. We’ve had the chance to see Nya Brown, Sabrina Cunningham and Piya Malik a few times since they released their debut album, Prism, in 2022, and the trio channels euphoria in spades.
But there’s always been a deeper message in the music than simply having a good time. Today, Say She She talks about its latest album, Cut & Rewind, including why the group wanted to write a song like “Disco Life,” inspired by the infamous Disco Demolition Night in Chicago, and how the anti-disco backlash targeted Black and queer communities.
The band also reflects on a major business setback and the challenges of navigating an industry that has often been predatory toward artists.
Plus, Say She She performs live in the studio.
