Encore: MLK Day special hosted by Raina Douris, featuring Talia Schlanger’s interview with guest Mavis Staples.

Mavis Staples is one of America’s defining voices of peace and unity. She’s been performing since 1950, and at 79 years old, she released an album called Live in London and went on tour in 2019. Today, we’ll hear her tell stories about writing songs for Martin Luther King Jr.’s Civil Rights rallies, developing an artistic relationship with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, and her longtime friendship with Aretha Franklin.
