Encore: Bettye LaVette joins host Raina Douris

For her latest record, Bettye LaVette reinterprets songs popularized by some of her favorite black female jazz singers, like Dinah Washington, Nina Simone, and Billie Holiday. That’s why she titled the album Blackbirds – and also why she decided to include her version of Paul McCartney’s song, “Blackbird.” Bettye talks to host Raina Douris about her song selections, life during quarantine, and her induction into the Blues Hall of Fame this year.
