John Morrison’s Culture Corner with host Raina Douris

Although it may be hard to believe today, the Beastie Boys’ record company wanted nothing to do with them in the early ‘90s, when their album Paul’s Boutique flopped. But in turn, the label’s lack of interest and supervision allowed the band the freedom to experiment – The follow-up record was Check Your Head, and now 30 years on, it’s still one of the Beastie Boys’ most beloved and critically acclaimed. Culture Corner correspondent John Morrison dives into that moment in musical history and discusses the rise of the Beastie Boys.
