Encore: Pete Townshend (HR 1), Raphael Saadiq (HR 2)

World Cafe returns to some of the year’s best interviews as 2019 comes to a close. Today, it’s Pete Townshend, who has a new album with The Who and has published his first ever novel, The Age of Anxiety. Pete talks about how the book relates to The Who’s classic rock opera, Tommy, and what he’d now say to his younger self – the one who wrote the line, “I hope I die before I get old.” Then in the second hour, Raphael Saadiq discusses his latest album, Jimmy Lee, named for his late brother, and reflects on working with Stevie Wonder, Kendrick Lamar, and Solange.
