Hey it’s Monday and that means new music discovery on XPN! Tonight at 8pm, gather ‘round the radio as we’ve got a few interesting collaborations to play, including a new song from Thundercat featuring both Michael McDonald AND Kenny Loggins.  Yup … you read that correctly.  In fact, it’s our “Gotta Hear” Song of the Week!  Also, Ray Davies of the Kinks teams up with The Jayhawks for his first new album in almost a decade.  The cool kids are talking about the new tune from Real Estate, we’ve got that to spin.  Plus some other highlights like …

THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS “High Ticket Attractions”

About a year ago, before a New Pornographers gig in Philadelphia, I got a call from a listener who wanted to know if the whole band would be at the show.  Well, rest assured the whole band (including Neko Case) is back at it with a new album called White Out Conditions.  The Vancouver indie-rock heroes return with their trademark bright, poppy, driving pop sounds on a new tune called “High Ticket Attractions”.  Mark your calendars and make sure you have you tickets to see them April 27th in Philly.  They’ll be playing at Union Transfer and we’ll be playing this one tonight on our show.

MATTHEW LOGAN VASQUEZ “Same”

Ok, my personal fandom with Delta Spirit aside, you’re going to love this new song from Matthew Logan Vasquez. The Delta Spirit frontman took an opportunity to release his first solo album last year.  In some ways, it was a restart button on his music career but it had all the rawness and energy that first attracted so many Delta Spirit fans.  In fact, I think he left his show at Boot & Saddle last year without his shirt.  Partial nudity aside, Matt takes a huge step forward as he preps his second solo album called Does What He WantsWe’re expecting a call from Matt tonight to talk about the new album and song “Same” which features Kam Franklin of The Suffers.  Brush up and lend your eyes to “Same”:

FIRST IMPRESSION: GABRIEL GARZÓN-MONTANO

Gabriel Garzón-Montano is an artist we’ll feature on the show tonight, but it’s likely not going to be the last time you hear from him. The Brooklyn based artist just released his debut album called Jardin.  It’s an album that navigates through avenues of R&B, Latin soul and funk with a complex world view.  Gabriel recorded almost all of the instruments himself both in an analog and digital setting.  That approach leads to Jardin being a creative musical space that is both warm and retro in feel, but progressive in its ambition.  We’ll dig in and listen to a couple songs tonight during our “First Impression” feature at 8:30pm.
