I really hope that local rapper Mason and producer FortuneWest never stop creating collabs, because dear lord, they make some tasty tracks. Late last month, the two released a new EP Primordial, which marks their third studio collaboration together.

Following last spring’s release of Gods We Were, the new EP takes a darker, smoother turn. Mason’s R&B, almost painfully smooth, vocals are heavily featured throughout the release atop FortuneWest’s electro beats, and are perfectly juxtaposed with Mason’s chopped-up, poetic rap verses. Tracks “Unstable” and “Power” possess The Neighbourhood-esque moody rock vibes, synth beats shine “Truth Hurts” and “All Over,” and final track, “Work,” takes cues from Gods We Were single, “Flaws.”

Let’s hope some shows are added in the near future to hear these zesty beats live, but until then, listen to the moody and smooth EP, Primordial, below.
