NonCOMM Recap: Downbeat surfer vibes flood Real Estate’s set
“Hope everyone’s doing okay out there out in noncommercial radio land,” Real Estate bassist, Alex Bleeker offered out to the packed upstairs crowd.
And radio land was definitely doing okay. Much more than okay, thanks to Real Estate’s infectious, upbeat set, where the easy-going four-piece treated radio land goers to new tracks off their recently released album, In Mind. Which the tongue-in-cheek band more than a few times said was already certified platinum, in a jokingly forced-nonchalant tone.
All joking aside, In Mind is deserving of recognition, as the the band proved during their set playing new tunes such as single, “Darling,” which breezily swayed through catchy synth lines and sunny guitar licks — all the while retaining a touch of somber indie-ness.
The rest of Real Estate’s performance contained this same kind of melancholy surfer vibe. Like it’s a cloudy day at the beach, but they’re like hey, we’re here on a beach so what the hey, let’s still have a good ole’ time.
You can catch these somber yet sunny waves when Real Estate plays Union Transfer tomorrow night at Union Transfer. Find info here and check out the photos from the set below.
