Queen of Jeans | Photo by Noah Silvestry for WXPN | silvestography.com

The music featured in filmmaker Sophia Coppola’s films always have a major purpose. These carefully-selected songs work with the scenes rather than just sitting idly atop them. In tribute to Coppola’s musical reverence, indie label Superfan 99 have released a cover compilation of songs that have found new homes in Coppola films throughout the years.

Included in the 14 reworked tracks is Philly’s own Queen of Jeans, whotook on the Gwen Stefani track, “Cool,” which is featured in Coppola’s Somewhere. Queen of Jeans’ rendition of the Stefani hit travels a beautifully subdued route — highlighting floaty, synth atmospheres with a slowed-down tempo and ethereal vocals.

Take a listen to the cover below; then get ready to see Queen of Jeans perform on the Ben Franklin Parkway at this year’s Made In America festival. Find info on tickets here.
