Guten tag! For the last couple weeks, I’ve been taking you to Vienna, Austria, for our Sense of Place series. And when we first started researching the music scene in Vienna, we weren’t sure how much we’d find there. Sure, we knew there would be lots of Classical music. But it turns out there’s also a thriving indie music scene.
In this session, you’ll hear a supergroup out of that scene — a band made up of members who came to it from all different projects. They’re called My Ugly Clementine, and their ’90s-inspired rock has snagged them a couple awards — the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in 2020, and their debut album, Vitamin C, won the Impala European Independent Album of the Year award last year. But none of that should really be surprising, considering they sold out their very first show back in 2019, before anyone had even heard their music yet.
This mini-concert was recorded live in front of an audience at FM4 radio studios in Vienna. They’re a national public radio station that covers popular music in Austria, in both German and English.
