You know when you’ve been doing something for a long time — you get the basics down, you learn the rules, you become an expert. That’s when you can start to wing it. It’s kind of like cooking. Once you know how flavors work together, you can leave recipes behind and just try stuff out. After more than 15 years of being a band, The Lumineers are expert chefs when it comes to making songs together — and so for their latest album, it was time to mix things up.
In this session with vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Wesley Schultz, he’ll talk about how the band improvised more than they ever have while writing their latest album, Brightside, and how the mutual trust within the band made that approach work. Plus, you’ll hear that approach in action with live performances from the whole band, beginning with the album’s title track.
