Michigander charts the long journey to ‘It Will Never Be The Same’
Jason Singer’s mix of optimism and vulnerability has been one of indie rock’s most exciting stories in the last few years.

When I found out Jason Singer, who performs as Michigander, had broken his leg filming a music video from his upcoming EP, It Will Never Be The Same, I couldn’t help but feel severely bummed. It’s impossible not to root for Singer, whose mix of optimism and vulnerability in his music has been one of indie rock’s most exciting stories in the last few years.
Thankfully, his leg has healed, there’s a new tour, and It Will Never Be The Same drops at the end of this month. I caught up with Jason after he played a session for World Cafe to talk about the long journey from playing bars underage as a teenager all over Michigan to recording in the Prince room at Sunset Sound Studios.
