Respected Philly-area modern rockers Balance and Composure went on hiatus four years ago, following an extended run in support of their expansive third LP, 2016’s Light We Made. While the future of the band remained uncertain — even moreso during the industry shutdown of the pandemic — they surprised fans this spring by re-emerging with a new double-A-side single made up of two of the best songs of their career, “Savior Mode” and “Last To Know.”
The band’s latest chapter continued on Friday night, when Balance played the first of two sold out shows at Union Transfer, their first concert since 2019. Philly’s Webbed Wing joined them — that’s longtime scene pals of the band, who previously performed as Superheaven and Daylight before that — as well as the New England punk four piece Fleshwater.
Balance opened the show with “Tiny Raindrop,” encored with “Reflection,” and played most of 2013’s The Things We Think We’re Missing in between, but the two new songs were represented in the mix, as were faves from Balance’s debut Separation, a couple from Light, and 2017’s Slow Heart 7″.
The band returns to Union Transfer tonight for a second sold-out show, before heading on a short run of dates in Los Angeles, Pomona, and New York. Details here; check out photos from the show by Rachel Del Sordo below.
