It’s a big week for Sweet Pill fans. The Philly-based alternative emo band announced the beginning of a new era in their career: a deal with Hopeless Records, a major player in the punk world, as well as the quintet’s newest single “Starchild,” out now.
Recorded in a secluded Poconos cabin, “Starchild” is packed with thudding drums and melodic freestyle guitar riffs. Simultaneously upbeat and melancholic, lead vocalist Zayna Youssef’s fiery voice sings about the dark side of people pleasing. Youseff quotes, “Starchild’ sums up what it feels like to have the burden of someone else’s responsibilities with a million eyes on you at the same time.”
Since the release of their 2022 record Where The Heart Is put them on the emo map, Sweet Pill has actively been on the road as tour support for a number of bands, including fellow Philly artists The Wonder Years. Capturing the attention of emo rock lovers across the country, fans have a lot to look forward to as the band ventures into an exciting new chapter with Hopeless Records.
