Joining us for this Indie Rock Hit Parade special are two friends who’ve been regulars on the show since the very beginning. We first met Cults in early 2011, months before the release their self-titled debut. The New York group would go on to make their Free at Noon debut and returned to our studio around the time of 2017’s Offering. To celebrate the release of their fifth album, To the Ghosts, I spoke with bandleaders Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion about what fans can expect from the new record.

In this conversation, Follin and Oblivion describe how they took a new approach to songwriting for To the Ghosts, reflect on their longtime partnership with producer/songwriter Shane Stoneback, and explain how the recent viral success of songs like “Always Forever” and “Gilded Lily” left them feeling an even closer connection to their fans.

To the Ghosts is out now.

Cults will spend most of the rest of the year on the road, including a stretch of dates supporting Vampire Weekend. Check out the full tour schedule below.
