As the year enters the home stretch, you may find yourself wanting to revisit all-time favorite albums. More than most weeks, today’s new batch of new releases is headlined by an assortment of deluxe reissues that breathe new life into essential archival material. There are also some new-new records out there.

On Come Ahead, their first album in eight years, Primal Scream push even deeper into the nocturnal baroque pop of Bobby Gillespie’s 2021 collaboration with Jehnny Beth. Yonder Mountain String Band’s Nowhere Next offers plenty of the Colorado band’s signature complex interplay, punctuated by solo turns from new fiddler Coleman Smith and guest picker Jerry Douglas. For decades, songwriter Margo Guryan was an unclassifiable cult favorite; to mark the third anniversary of her passing, acolytes like Frankie Cosmos, Empress Of, and Margo Price present their takes on Guryan’s material on Like Someone I Know.

In the realm of deluxe reissues: Talking Heads unearth some of their earliest demos and live performances on a multi-disc edition of their debut. A full concert, unreleased studio tracks, and assorted sketches paint a rich picture of how The Tragically Hip came to develop their 1989 debut, Up to Here. Shifting away from the danceable psychedelia of their first two LPs, Charlatans UK’s 30th anniversary edition of Up to Our Hips boasts an early take of anthemic lead single “Can’t Get Out of Bed.” With ties to the celebrated Elephant Six collective, The Ladybug Transistor take a trip through their own past, unearthing alternate takes from the sessions of 1999’s The Ablemarle Sound. DC trio Tsunami ushered in the ‘90s riot grrrl scene with four albums of taut, seething punk; Loud is As immortalizes those records, as well as ephemera from the band’s self-run record label, in a multi-media package.

Listen for spotlights on new records like these (and more) every week on the XPN Morning Show and Indie Rock Hit Parade.
