All signs point to the year winding down, but there are still new albums to enjoy! Lauren Mayberry makes her solo debut away from CHVRCHES with Vicious Creature, teaming with producer Greg Kurstin and songwriter Tobias Jesso Jr. for a modern pop workout. Texas mainstays White Denim douse their rollicking guitar-forward prog with rootsy funk on 12, their appropriately titled 12th studio album. From the hallowed halls of EMI’s famed recording space, Lucinda Williams takes on the Fab Four catalog on Lucinda Williams Sings the Beatles from Abbey Road.
On Heavy Metal, Cameron Winter takes the swaggering approach that’s been his trademark with his band Geese to more intimate and homespun sonic terrains. Following the April release of Perceive Its Beauty, Acknowledge Its Grace, UK jazz titan Shabaka Hutchings samples and reconstructs his own compositions on the five-song Possession EP.
Listen for spotlights on new records like these (and more) every week on the XPN Morning Show and Indie Rock Hit Parade. And for a roundup of the year’s new holiday music releases, skate on over to Merry PRESSmas.
