Big returns highlight the first crop of new albums for the new month. Stepping away from the 400 Unit for the first time since his 2007 debut, Jason Isbell’s Foxes in the Snow is a tender set performed on a vintage Martin guitar at Electric Lady Studios. Lady Gaga hops from genre to genre on Mayhem; her ambitious eighth album includes Gaga’s Grammy-winning duet with Bruno Mars. On Here We Go Crazy, his 15th solo album (and first in five years), Bob Mould reunites with bassist Jason Narducy and drummer Jon Wurster for a collection of charged anthems.
Blood on the Silver Screen, the third LP from SASAMI, is a towering art-pop experience that puts the Los Angeles mainstay’s songwriting and arrangement skills on full display. Working with producer Aaron Dessner for his fifth solo release, Walkmen vocalist Hamilton Leithauser delivers rollicking grooves on This Side of the Island. Acclaimed mandolinist Sierra Hull shares the spotlight with her virtuosic touring band on A Tip Toe High Wire.
Listen for spotlights on new records like these (and more) every week on the XPN Morning Show and Indie Rock Hit Parade.
