Lucy Dacus‘ new album has a ton of nods to art history, from the actual oil painting on the cover of Forever is a Feeling to the museums and churches she performed in leading up to release day.
Though it may have been inspired by the past, the Virginia singer-songwriter says the new album is ultimately about the present and the cycle of creation and destruction apparent in every facet of our lives.
“Just noticing that your life moves in cycles as well. That you changed and you grow, or you grow toward things and away from other things,” she says.
In this session, Dacus unpacks some of the big ideas at play on Forever is a Feeling, collaborating with Hozier, why she enjoys writing complex love songs, and how a trip to a Philadelphia art museum inspired one of her new songs.
