Joining us in the studio for this Indie Rock Hit Parade live session is a ferocious fivesome from Austin, Texas. A Giant Dog sprung to life over a decade ago, quickly gaining a reputation as an unparalleled live act. Led by singer Sabrina Ellis and guitarist Andrew Cashen (the same duo at the core of XPN favorites Sweet Spirit), the group just released their first album since 2017, the high-concept glam-opera Bite.

In this session, the stage is set for the dystopian society that serves as Bite‘s ‘Metropolis,’ Avalonia. The rebellion anthem “I Believe” follows, along with the nimble rush of “A Daydream,” and the album’s bittersweet closer “In Rainbows” provide an overview of Bite‘s techno-delic landscape. As a special bonus, AGD barrels through a fan favorite, “Photograph,” from their previous LP, Toy.

To celebrate the one-year anniversary of Bite‘s release, A Giant Dog returned to our studio for a wide-ranging conversation with IRHP host Eric Schuman. Ellis and Cashen discuss the earliest memories of their friendship and collaboration, the band’s vision for the elaborate world of Avalonia, and their recent appearance at Merge Records’ 35th anniversary festival.
